Choosing the setting for giving birth is very important. If you are healthy and your little one within, you may choose any setting, home, birth center or hospital. Each setting has advantages and disadvantages. If you or your little one within have medical problems, the hospital may be the only option. Giving birth requires opening up both physically and emotionally and is best done in an atmosphere of trust with attention to physical comforts. Research has demonstrated being in water promotes comfort and relaxation that reduces the pain of labor and birth. Birthing tubs are a popular feature in birth centers and can be rented for the home setting. Most hospitals also have tubs in the rooms but do not allow waterbirth.
